First settled in AD 55 by the Romans to control the Celtic tribes, Cardiff is situated on the famous river Taff and is a few miles from Bristol, Swansea on the M4.

Cardiff really started to grow during the Industrial Revolution, when vast amounts of coal were exported around the globe from Cardiff Bay. Cardiff became a city in 1905, and in 1955 was chosen by Prime Minister to be the capital city of Wales.

Tourist attractions in Cardiff include the famous Millennium Stadium, where Wales play football and rugby. Cardiff is also home to the National Assembly of Wales. Cardiff is also famous for its castle, which was originally built by the Normans in 1091, and was renovated by the Marquis of Bute John Leyland in 1891. The Wales Millennium Centre has events ranging from opera to pop music and comedy.

Accommodation in the city ranges from small family run establishments where a warm Welsh welcome is assured to the larger hotel chains. We focus here on smaller, more reasonably priced premises offering quality lodgings inclusive of breakfast and taxes.

Like any large city, Cardiff has a number of high end hotels, such as the Cardiff St Mellons, Park Inn and the St Davids Hotel. However, for a more reasonably priced stay, we would suggest that you try one of these excellent bed and breakfast establishments.
